As the leading British R&B singer-songwriter during the early to mid-1980s, he gained fame for hits like “Caribbean Queen,” “Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car,” and “Suddenly.” His other significant works include the album “Love Zone” and the song “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry).” In 2002, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in music for his contributions to the industry.
