Rebecca Elizabeth Sauerbrunn, an American professional soccer player, currently represents Portland Thorns FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). As of 2021, she serves as the captain of the United States women’s national soccer team. Sauerbrunn has established herself as a formidable presence in the league, securing the NWSL Defender of the Year award for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015 while playing for FC Kansas City. She has also participated in multiple Olympic Games and FIFA Women’s World Cups, earning gold medals and championships with the team. Renowned for her exceptional defensive skills and leadership on the field, Sauerbrunn is also an advocate for gender equality in sports and operates the Sauerbrunn Family Foundation. A talented artist, she studied fine arts and graphic design in college and enjoys painting and drawing in her spare time. Sauerbrunn has even sold some of her artwork for charity and designed the logo for her foundation.
