Audrey Meadows, born Audrey Cotter in New York City, was a trailblazing American actress renowned for her role as Alice Kramden in the TV series “The Honeymooners.” She started her career in show business as a singer and comedian, performing in Broadway productions and films. Some of her notable roles include appearances in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” “That Touch of Mink,” and “The Red Skelton Show.” Meadows received an Emmy for her performance in “The Jackie Gleason Show” and was a pioneer for women in comedy. She authored a memoir titled “Love, Alice: My Life as a Honeymooner” and was married to Robert F. Six, the president of Continental Airlines. Meadows passed away from lung cancer in 1996 at the age of 74. An interesting fact about her is that she was one of the first actors to receive residual payments for her work on The Honeymooners.
