Arthur Lake, an American actor, gained fame for his role as Dagwood Bumstead in the “Blondie” film series. With over 100 film appearances, including “It Happened One Night” and “The Thin Man,” Lake also acted in TV shows like “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” In 1960, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Born Arthur Silverlake, a family friend suggested he shorten his name to Lake for the stage. Besides his film and TV roles, he also voiced Dagwood Bumstead in a radio series from 1939 to 1950. Interestingly, Lake’s parents were circus acrobats, and he joined their act before transitioning to vaudeville and eventually landing in California. It was there that Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Pictures, changed his name to Lake.
