Andrew Alexander, a Canadian-American television producer, is renowned for founding The Second City comedy troupe and discovering legendary comedians like John Belushi, Bill Murray, and Tina Fey. He has produced notable comedy TV series such as SCTV (1976) and The Second City Presents (1981). Among his other accomplishments are producing Second City’s 50th-anniversary celebration and receiving the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his contributions to the arts. Besides his successful television production career, Alexander is also a skilled poker player who has competed in the World Series of Poker. An interesting tidbit about him is that at the age of 29, he played the lead role of Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps in London’s West End after previously understudying the role.
