Andrea Newman was a renowned British author, screenwriter, and television producer, who gained fame for her novel “A Bouquet of Barbed Wire” and its sequels “After Julius” and “A Sense of Guilt”. She also wrote the screenplay for the successful 1976 TV series adaptation of “A Bouquet of Barbed Wire”. Among her other notable works are “The Winter Wife”, “Pandora’s Box”, and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. In 1977, Newman received the Royal Television Society Writer’s Award for “A Bouquet of Barbed Wire”. She was an active member of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists for over five decades, even serving on the committee. In her later years, she adapted her short story “The Night of the Stag” for the anthology series “The Frighteners” and penned two episodes for the drama “Helen: A Woman of Today”. Andrea Newman passed away in 2019 at the age of 81. She was particularly known for her provocative television dramas, such as “Bouquet of Barbed Wire”.
