Al-Ghazali (c.1056â1111) was a distinguished philosopher, theologian, jurist, and mystic in Sunni Islam. Born in Tus, within the Seljuk Empire, he was a Persian Muslim scholar, legal expert, rationalist, and spiritualist. His most renowned work, “The Revival of the Religious Sciences,” integrated Sufism into orthodox Islam. Other significant works include “The Incoherence of the Philosophers,” “Deliverance from Error,” “The Alchemy of Happiness,” and “The Beginning of Guidance.” Al-Ghazali’s contributions have left a lasting impact on Islamic thought.
