Abby Wambach, an American retired soccer player, coach, and National Soccer Hall of Fame member, was a key player on the U.S. women’s national soccer team from 2001 to 2015. During her career, she contributed to the team’s success by winning two Olympic gold medals (2004 and 2012) and a World Cup (2015). As the all-time leading goal scorer in women’s international soccer, Wambach scored an impressive 184 goals in 256 appearances for the U.S. team. In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year in 2012 and the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year six times. Wambach is also an activist for women’s rights and LGBTQ+ equality. In her 2016 memoir, “Forward,” she shares personal stories from her life and career, including her battle with addiction.
