Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr., commonly known as A.J. Foyt, is a renowned retired American racing driver who had a versatile and triumphant career across various motorsports genres. He gained fame as the first driver to secure four Indianapolis 500 victories, achieved in 1961, 1964, 1967, and 1977. Additionally, Foyt is the only driver to have won the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a seven-time Indy car champion, he holds numerous open-wheel racing records and has competed in NASCAR and USAC, winning several major sports car racing events. Foyt is often considered one of the greatest all-round motor racing drivers in history.
An intriguing aspect of Foyt’s career is that he not only drove the cars to victory in 1967 and 1977 but also constructed the Coyote chassis and developed the V8 engine for the 1977 car.
