Wesley Joel Matthews Jr., an American professional basketball player, currently represents the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. Before joining the Hawks, he played college basketball with the Marquette Golden Eagles and had a successful NBA career with teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Mavericks, and Milwaukee Bucks. Matthews is renowned for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting skills. In 2011, he played a crucial role in his team’s NBA Championship victory, and in 2010, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Additionally, he was the co-Player of the Year in the Big East Conference in 2009.
Matthews comes from a basketball family, as his father, Wesley Matthews Sr., also had a professional basketball career, including playing for the Washington Bullets in the 1980s. Although Matthews was a talented high school athlete in both basketball and baseball, he chose to focus on basketball instead of potentially being a first-round pick in the MLB draft. In 2023, he signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks.
