He was known for advocating “Guided Democracy,” an authoritarian system that suppressed the original parliamentary structure, and attempted to maintain a balance between Communists and army leaders. Additionally, Sukarno was instrumental in establishing the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War. A talented writer and poet, his notable works include “Indonesian Nationalism” and “Indonesia Menggugat.” In 1966, he was deposed and replaced by General Suharto.
