Rock Hudson was notably recognized as a film heartthrob who ‘epitomized Hollywood’s classic matinee idol image,’ as described by TCM.com. His film credits include ‘Magnificent Obsession’ (1954), ‘All that Heaven Allows’ (1955), and ‘Giant’ (1956).
Originally, Roc was his intended stage name. To avoid being confused with the 1940s actress, Rochelle Hudson, they opted to keep it as Rock.
When it was announced that he had AIDS, he received numerous telegrams from Frank Sinatra, Madonna, Richard Dreyfuss, Mickey Rooney, and Ava Gardner, to name a few. He also received a personal call from the President Ronald Reagan, who was recovering from his colon cancer surgery.
