Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton, also known by his pseudonym Owen Meredith, was a prominent English poet, diplomat, and Conservative politician during the late 19th century. He gained widespread recognition for his narrative poem “Lucile,” which became highly popular in the Victorian era. Besides “Lucile,” Meredith authored several other poetry collections, including “The Wanderer” and “Glenaveril,” as well as plays such as “Fidelia” and “The Apple of Life.” In his diplomatic career, he served as an ambassador to various countries, including France, Rome, and Constantinople. As a testament to his significant contributions to literature, Owen Meredith was a member of the prestigious Royal Society of Literature.
