Just Louis Fontaine (18 August 1933 â 28 February 2023) was a renowned French professional footballer who played as a striker. He holds the enduring record for the most goals scored in a single FIFA World Cup edition, having netted thirteen times in six matches during the 1958 tournament. Throughout his career, Fontaine played for notable clubs such as Stade de Reims, Real Madrid, and OGC Nice. He received the French Player of the Year award in 1958 and 1960 and was named one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers by Pelé in 2004. Fontaine passed away on 28 February 2023 at the age of 89.
