Jonathan Lethem, an American author known for his genre-blending novels, essays, and short stories, first gained recognition with his 1994 debut novel, “Gun, with Occasional Music.” This book combined elements of science fiction and detective fiction. His most renowned work, “Motherless Brooklyn,” won the National Book Critics Circle Award and achieved mainstream success. Other notable novels by Lethem include “The Fortress of Solitude” and “Chronic City.” In 2005, he received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship. Besides his fiction writing, Lethem has contributed essays to various publications and taught creative writing at institutions such as Pomona College and Claremont McKenna College.
