John Tyler, who became the 10th President of the United States in 1841 following President William Henry Harrison’s death, holds the distinction of being the sole president to align with secessionists and join the Confederacy during the Civil War. While in office, Tyler married Julia Gardiner, making him the first president to wed during his term. He played a significant role in Texas’ annexation and even has a city in the state named in his honor. Remarkably, one of Tyler’s grandchildren is still living today.
