James Francis Durante, affectionately known as “Schnozzola,” was a cherished American entertainer who gained fame as a comedian, actor, singer, and pianist. His unique raspy voice, New York accent, humorous language mishaps, and notable nose made him an easily recognizable figure from the 1920s to the 1970s. Durante’s most notable works include his roles in films such as “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and “The Great Rupert,” as well as hosting “The Jimmy Durante Show.” He was also celebrated for his hit songs “Inka Dinka Doo” and “Make Someone Happy.” In addition to his entertainment career, Durante was a licensed private pilot who used his passion for flying to promote the sale of war bonds during World War II. He was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
