Jack Ruby, originally named Jacob Rubenstein, was a notable American nightclub owner with alleged ties to the Chicago Outfit. He gained infamy for assassinating Lee Harvey Oswald, the man believed to have killed President John F. Kennedy, on November 24, 1963. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1946, he legally changed his surname to Ruby. He was later convicted of murder and sentenced to death. In addition to his notorious act, Ruby managed strip clubs in Dallas and was purportedly involved in organized crime.
