Glen Hyde, an American adventurer and explorer, is best known for his mysterious disappearance with his wife, Bessie, during their 1928 honeymoon trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Their fate remains one of the most enigmatic unsolved cases in the area’s history. Before this ill-fated journey, Glen had experience in river running, having navigated the Salmon and Snake Rivers in Idaho. Along with his brother, he also established a successful business creating and selling lightweight, durable aluminum canoes. In 1928, Glen and Bessie married and aimed to set a new speed record for traversing the Colorado River.
