Gayla Rienette Peevey, born on March 8, 1943, is a former singer and child star hailing from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She rose to fame at the age of 10 with her rendition of the amusing song “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” In 1960, under the pseudonym Jamie Horton, Peevey had a minor hit with “Robot Man.” She also recorded other festive songs, including “Angel in the Christmas Play” and “Got a Cold in the Node for Christmas.” A graduate of San Diego State University, Peevey is married to Clifford Henderson.
