Garry Shandling was a renowned American comedian, actor, writer, and producer, recognized for his innovative and self-reflective television shows. He created and starred in two groundbreaking series: It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and The Larry Sanders Show. Shandling started his career by writing for sitcoms like Sanford and Son and Welcome Back, Kotter, and later made a successful stand-up appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, where he frequently guest-hosted. Among his other notable works are his role as Senator Stern in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films and his HBO special Garry Shandling: Alone in Vegas. Throughout his career, he received numerous Emmy and CableACE awards. A dedicated Buddhist, Shandling practiced meditation for over three decades and integrated Buddhist principles into his comedy. He passed away in Los Angeles, California, on March 24, 2016, at 66 years old.
