Donald Dunn (1941-2012) was a renowned American musician, songwriter, and actor. He gained fame as the bassist for the blues and soul band Booker T. & the M.G.’s, contributing to iconic songs such as Otis Redding’s “Respect” and collaborating with artists like Neil Young and Eric Clapton. Dunn was also a music producer and co-owned a recording studio in Memphis.
In 2007, Dunn was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, alongside his Booker T. & the M.G.’s bandmates Steve Cropper, Al Jackson Jr., and Booker T. Jones. He had previously been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the band in 1992.
Dunn also had a notable acting career, appearing in films like “The Blues Brothers” (1980), “Blues Brothers 2000” (1998), and “Rush Hour” (1998). He was once married to a woman named June.
Sadly, Dunn passed away on May 13, 2012, in Tokyo, Japan. However, his significant contributions to music and film continue to be celebrated and remembered.
