Billie Dove, a renowned American actress and model, gained fame during the 1920s and 1930s for her striking beauty and exceptional acting skills. She rose to prominence with her role in “The Black Pirate” alongside Douglas Fairbanks in 1926. Successfully transitioning from silent films to “talkies,” Dove was selected for a voice test for Warner Bros’ Vitaphone sound-on-disc system. As one of the highest-paid actresses of her era, her notable works include “The American Beauty,” “The Lady Who Dared,” and “An Affair of the Follies.” After retiring from acting in the early 1930s, Dove spent her later years in Rancho Mirage and the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. She passed away on New Year’s Eve 1997 at the age of 94.
