Audrey Mae Sheppard Williams (February 28, 1923 â November 4, 1975) was an American musician who gained prominence as the first wife of renowned country music singer and songwriter Hank Williams. She was also the mother of Hank Williams Jr., and the grandmother of Hank Williams III and Holly Williams. Audrey played a crucial role in promoting her husband’s music and managing his career, co-writing several of his hit songs such as “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I Won’t Be Home No More,” and “Kaw-Liga.” Additionally, she established the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. A skilled musician herself, Audrey performed on her husband’s radio show and recorded a few singles under her own name, but her primary focus remained on supporting her husband’s career.
