Andy Kaufman was a comedian, actor, and performance artist recognized for his distinctive humor that often merged reality and fiction. He gained fame for his portrayal of Latka Gravas on the TV sitcom “Taxi” and his elaborate hoaxes, such as impersonating a talentless lounge singer named Tony Clifton. Among his other accomplishments were appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” the biographical film “Man on the Moon,” and his induction into the Comedy Hall of Fame. Additionally, Kaufman integrated wrestling into his comedic acts, challenging audience members and even briefly pursuing a career as a professional wrestler. Notably, he viewed his unconventional stand-up comedy as more of a performance art than traditional comedy.
